Johnson, Butler & Company ("JBC") and its predecessor, Paul Johnson Company, have been active as intermediaries in the m&a field for the past 25 years. Its typical clients are either prospective sellers or buyers of businesses. Seller clients are most often privately held companies, but they can also be publicly held corporations planning divestitures. Buyers are usually larger operating companies or private investment companies. Typically, the businesses to be sold or acquired are midsize, with transaction values of $5 Million to $100 Million.
As a complement to m&a work, JBC assists in raising funds for buyouts, restructuring and corporate growth. Since joint ventures and other strategic alliances may sometimes be a better choice than mergers, JBC also provides assistance in the formation of strategic alliances between companies.
The principals of JBC are all senior level professionals. Their backgrounds include a combination of investment banking, management consulting and operating management. This broad experience enables the firm to make substantial contributions to m&a projects. Furthermore, because of the large number of transactions completed and the diverse number of industries served, JBC has a relatively good understanding of many industries. It has also done m&a projects in many geographical areas of the United States and in foreign countries, as well. The principals of JBC are active in a number of professional and industry associations.
